Applying to the arts at UCLA is different from any other University of California campus, and different from applying to most majors at UCLA.
Our visual and performing arts majors require a creative supplement that involves visual artwork, performing arts audition, and/or additional writing. You can apply directly to your major with those supplemental materials and when you start at UCLA you begin your arts coursework right away.
How do I apply?
Applying to an arts major at UCLA is a two-step process:
File the University of California General Application, and list your arts major as your first choice to UCLA.
Complete the UCLA Arts supplement for your desired major. ***FALL 2025 Supplemental requirements are live on SlideRoom***. Requirements for each major are unique and may involve an audition, portfolio, additional writing, etc.
Important Deadlines
December 2: Deadline to file the University of California general application for Fall 2025 consideration.
December 15: Supplemental deadline for Dance, Design|Media Arts, and World Arts and Cultures.
January 20: Supplemental deadline for Architectural Studies and Art.
Then what happens?
Your UCLA Arts department evaluates your creative supplement, and makes admission recommendations to UCLA Undergraduate Admission. If you meet minimum academic eligibility requirements, then we can admit you.
